Prompt #31 : What have you done that you wish you could apologize for?
Savannah knelt in front of the headstone and carefully pulled the weeds that had grown up at the base of it since she had been out here last. She focused on that for a few moments, making sure that that area around the simple memorial was clean of weeds and other unsavory things.

After she was satisfied, she lit the candle and placed it on the top of the stone. She recited a simple spell, and the area around her warmed up slightly as she ran her fingers along the inscription.

There was no body here, of course. She had no idea what had been done with Eve's body the night they killed her when they were trying to escape the compound.

You would think that the passage of time would make the loss and the guilt easier.

You would be wrong.

"I'm sorry mom," she whispered. "I am so sorry. If I hadn't asked to stay home that day, none of this would have happened."

Her mom had only been caught by those assholes because they grabbed her and used her as a hostage to get her to comply. If she hadn't stayed home from school that day, her mom would have been able to escape the kidnappers and she would still be alive.

"I'm sorry," she whispered again.
